Context:
This assessment explores contemporary issues influencing the tourist experience with the tourism product. It also investigates practices used by operators to evaluate the tourist experience.
By prescribing this assessment, students build their knowledge of contemporary issues facing tourism operators and destinations. Additionally, the assessment contributes to the achievement of course learning outcomes, such as the demonstration of critical thinking, creativity and analytical skills.
Instructions:
In this assessment, you are required to do the following:
- Analyse contemporary issues influencing the experience with the tourism product
- Investigate the practices operators undertake in evaluating the tourist experience
The assessment is based on tourism in Australia as a case study. You will need to identify and analyse contemporary issues in terms of the impact of these issues on Destination Management Organisations (DMOs) and tour operators in Australia, including ways in which operators and DMOs are adjusting their activities and offerings in response.
You will also need to investigate practices used by tourism operators and DMOs in Australia to evaluate the tourist experience. The practices of at least three (3) Australian DMOs and/or tour operators should be identified and discussed in this part of your report.
How to prepare for this assessment
Familiarise yourself with the resources for Modules 5 and 6, including the presentations and readings.
Format: Report of 1800 words +/‐10%.
Your report should contain the following elements.

This assessment must be submitted in compliance with the following:
- You should make significant references to the subject material and substantial wider reading. A minimum two (2) academic (books & peer‐reviewed journal articles) & two (2) other sources (newspaper article, trade publications, websites, etc.) must be used per post. These should be referenced in the APA style, both in‐text and in a reference list. References to ‘Wikipedia’ or similar unsubstantiated sources will not be accepted.
- Any detection of plagiarism will lead to an immediate fail grade in the task, and possible exclusion from the subject.
- Extensions cannot be granted by the lecturer after the submission date. In the event of serious illness or unusual circumstances, a student may apply for Special Consideration in accordance with the rules and regulations governing this application, but it is important that such requests be made as soon as the circumstance is known.
