Consider the following scenario.

You are the HR Manager of a chain retailer, selling fresh flowers, gift cards and specialty balloons. The Managing Director decided to open a shop in the local shopping centre and seeks for your assistance. She asked you to help a newly appointed Shop Manager for recruitment, selection and induction of new staff.

Classification for the position of Supervisor is Retail Employee Level 4 and casual shop assistants are Retail Employee Level 1. In addition, 9.5% superannuation payment on gross earnings is required.

The shop owner’s preference is to hire staff members who have experience in a florist shop but she is prepared to train up the right person.

ASSESSMENT 3 – Observation Conduct interviews

This information is to be handed to each student to outline the assessment requirements.

Role play activity

It is important that you take this role-play seriously. Think of it as an opportunity to practice for a real  job interview, and to improve your interview skills. Role play activity 2 times as interviewer and (min) 1 time as job seeker.

You are to participate in 2 face to face interviews, with a minimum of 2 candidates for the position of Supervisor detailed in Assessment 2.

This will require you to assist the Shop Manager to:

  1. Shortlist applicants
  2. Schedule interviews
  3. Decide interview questions and interview each candidate as outlined below***1
  4. Select the most suitable candidate for the position (Discuss with the other panellists, outcomes of assessment, correct any bias, explain candidate suitability)
