Section 1

Prepare a planning document for a presentation that you will develop and deliver yourself verbally and visually to at least twopeers/friends/family membersin Section 2 of this assessment.  You are required to prepare the planning document based on the options below.

Option A

If you are currently employed, and have access to the information and material to help with the planning and delivery of the presentation, you can apply the assessment requirements to your own workplace.

Option B

If you are not currently working, or your workplace prohibits the use of their information being used in this course, you can access information and material to help with the planning and delivery of the presentation from TAFE Queensland’s simulated business – Superior Implements (SIM Co.).

Note

Please choose your workplace setting carefully, as you will be required to retain your choice for all assessments associated with this unit.

Scenario

Your presentation is to promote your company or Sim Co’s newest product/service. You will be delivering this presentation to potential buyers and your ultimate aim is to sell the product/service to the audience.

To complete this section successfully you will be required to create a planning document using a template from your workplace or the Presentation Plan available on the Superior Implements (SIM Co.) intranet. The completed Presentation Plan is to be submitted with this Section 1 of the assessment task.

 

Ensure you address, as a minimum, the following in your planning document:

  1. What is the aim and final outcome to be achieved via the delivery of the presentation?
  2. Who are the target audience and what are their expectations?
  3. What kind of resources will be made available for the presentation- venue, staff, infrastructure?
  4. How much time is made available to present?
  5. Describe the appropriate strategies you will use to deliver engagingly
  6. Describe the format and structure of your presentation
  7. A description of how at least two (2)presentation aids will be used to enhance your presentation delivery to help the audience to understand the key concepts more effectively. (Examples of aids: Use of props,audio-video, info-graphics, handouts, PowerPoint slides etc.)
  8. A description of the roles and responsibilities of audience members for this presentation e.g. seek clarification of any information presented, give feedbackfollowing the presentation.
  9. Stateat least two (2)tools you will use to obtain feedback and consider for continuous improvement. These will enable you to evaluate the effectiveness of your presentation. This must include a self-reflection tool because this will be required in Assessment No. 2
  10. Identify two (2) of the key regulatory and organisational requirements to which you have to adhere to deliver this presentation e.g. The Privacy Act, ACCC, the use of Style guide. State the full name and year where applicable. For each, write a paragraph describing the importance/relevance of this regulation in relation to presentations.
  11. Explain the principles of communication, as applied to this future presentation.

Note

You will find information in your course content under the heading- Effective communication principles, which will help you to appropriately format your answer.

Research sources must be evidenced, using APA6 or Harvard referencing method.

Section 2

In this section you will now be required to prepare a PowerPoint presentation and deliver it to at least two peers/friends/family members orally and visually. Your presentation must be created and delivered using the Presentation Plan you developed in Section 1 of this assessment.

The topic of the presentation is the same for which the Presentation Plan was developed, that is, a presentation to promote your company or SIM Co.’s newest product/service.

To successfully complete this section, your assessor will be looking for evidence of your ability to:

  • Implement and effectively use presentation aids, materials and examples to help the audience understand the topic better, in an interesting manner. (The use of props/models, info-graphics, handouts, PowerPoint slides etc.)
  • Monitor both verbal and non-verbal communication of the audience to ensure you have their attention and the tactics you would use to secure their attention when you lose their interest. (Questioning techniques, audience activity etc.)
  • Allow opportunities for the audience to seek clarification during the presentation delivery and adapt the presentation to their questions and the direction of their interest.
  • Effectively use communication skills to persuade the audience and to keep them interested. (Good voice modulation techniques, storytelling, asking the audience a question to ensure they are paying attention etc.)
  • Allocate time for an engaging and informative question and answer session with the audience.

Your delivery should be 10-15 minutes in duration including the question and answer session, with 8-10 slides.

Your task now is to deliver a presentation to potential buyers who will be role played by your audience members. Your aim is to sell your chosen product/service to the target audience (potential buyers).

You will need to complete the tasks below:

Locate and implement your chosen organisation’s style guide requirements or the Presentation Plan template from Superior Implements (SIM Co.) intranet.

Your presentation slides must cover at a minimum the below topics/headings:

  1. Introduction (Introduce yourself, your business and thank the audience for their time. This should be done with slideone)
  2. Objectives of the presentation (This slide should help enlighten the audience about the desired outcomes, why they are there today and what’s in it for them)
  3. Product/Service features (Provide information about the product/service)
  4. Why this product/service – (Highlight the features and benefits of the product/service. Why should the audience buy your product or service? Consider before and after use pictures, comparisons with similar products.
  5. Call to Action. (Where can the audience get more information from, where can they buy from, who can they contact?)
  6. Conclusion (wrap up by summarising the product information and thanking audience members for their time)
  7. References (List all references here, using APA6/Harvard method)
  8. Question and Answer – Open the session to a Question and Answer opportunityand invite the audience to ask questions. (There must be some questions asked by the audience to which you will be required to respond.)
