Assessment 2: Leadership for community engagement presentation
Consider and then choose one of the following scenario
Private provider, Happy and Healthy Early Childcare Centre, is struggling with declining enrolments after the local newspaper ran a negative story about complaints from a dissatisfied parent and former client of the centre that their food menus were too high in sugar and fats.
The centre has been operating out of its current leased space for more than 10 years and the building and furniture are starting to show their age. The centre staff are long term employees who are dedicated and experienced carers. The centre has a functioning website and they use that site as their primary marketing tool – as well as relying on decade old verge signage out the front of the building on a busy highway.
The local community has been experiencing gentrification over the last 5 years and neighbourhood families have become more affluent and multicultural than when the centre first opened. The centre is close to a large hospital and a primary school with an excellent reputation. There is a noticeable increase in young families renting and buying homes in the local community.
Your assessment 2 task is to create a presentation as if you were a consultant hired by the governing Board for one of the three education sites described in the above scenarios. You are tasked with developing a series of recommendations that will result in a proactive, determined and systematic endeavour to improve the image and reputation of Newvision Primary or Happy and Health Early Childcare Centre or Tradie High School. (NB. Under extraordinary circumstances a student can negotiate with Dr Cunningham to use a fourth option with an agreed different scenario that better suits a student’s work experience in a different type of education institution).
To do this task you need to:
- Identify the skills which will be essential in meeting the challenge.
- Identify the fields of knowledge which will be important.
- Devise a public relations and marketing plan for the school/centre.
- Report on the plan via an audio visual presentation for the school/centre’s governing board.
At the final workshop on Saturday 26th October 2019, each student will have to present their presentation to the class audience. Students should provide an audio-visual presentation (e.g. PowerPoint or similar) of no more than 10 content slides (not including title page, list of references or appendices) and the ‘live’ presentation should go for no more than 10 minutes talking time as well.
Grade: 50% of unit mark.
