Pay careful attention to the Hughes poem.

Then discuss ideas and themes in the Hughes poem which connect to points made by Frederick Douglass in NARRATIVE OF THE LIFE OF FREDERICK DOUGLASS.

Write about 750 words or so.  Include a formal thesis statement naming both writers, texts, and your point.  Include details from both texts as evidence.  Organize your essay in a logical and clear way (and also break it into separate paragraphs which begin with appropriate transitional language).  Finally, make sure your prose is college level; you of course should also re-read your work before submitting it so that you catch errors, make improvements, etc.
