The Focus of This Assignment
Ethics, by definition, is the concept of what is good, bad, right and wrong. In social media, the right ethic equals the right perspective and the right thinking on how to leverage social media appropriately and how to engage people in the right manner.
Online social media applications are quickly gaining the mindshare of company employees and changing just as rapidly. But if you think you can keep your professional and private lives separate online, think again. We’ve all heard stories of people suffering the consequences of a tweet, Facebook update or blog post that shows an employer, client or colleague in a negative light.
With all the benefits that social media is bringing to the corporate world, a company faces numerous risks in its use, from breach of confidentiality, conflicts of interest, misuse of company resources and criticism of others.
Social media is a challenging topic because it crosses over so many ethics and compliance issues. But like any other ethics and compliance topic, it can and must be proactively managed for a company to safeguard its reputation.
