Assessment Task:-
You will read a synopsis about a client named Joe, who has schizophrenia. Based on what you read, please identify what Joe’s goal is. What does Joe want to learn how to do? Before we can teach a skill, we have to identify what the barriers will be for the learner. So, you will list 3 barriers you can identify that might make it difficult for Joe to learn the skill.
Then, just like teaching any skill, we always break the skill down into steps. Here you would like 3 steps you would take to each the skill to Joe. Next, what would your interventions be? So, if step #1 is learning how to read a recipe, intervention #1 should be what YOU will do to teach Joe how to read a recipe. The second part of the writing sample, you are actually meeting with Joe, and you are going to work with Joe on one of the steps you identified on the page.
You are going to indicate what time you worked with Joe (and this can be as long or as short as you want, however long you think it would take to teach Joe this skill); where you worked with Joe (the house, the library, the grocery store, etc.).
Then you’re going to write out what YOU did to teach Joe the step. So, you’re expanding on the intervention you wrote on page 1. Finally, what was Joe’s reaction? And use your imagination. Was he excited to learn something new? Did he become frustrated? Was it too much information at one time? It’s totally up to you.
