Assessment 3: Case study analysis: Legislation, policy and multidisciplinary approaches to integrated practice, report (4000 – 4500 words in total). This task assesses based on the ability of a small group to examine a case study of a family with complex needs and demonstrate how social work professionals from different areas of practice and service contexts, guided by different policy, practice and legislative frameworks, might work together to best support the family.
Groups will be allocated a case study in Seminar 2 and will complete a biopsychosocial assessment in class (this will not be assessed but must be included when submitting this assessment). Group members will be allocated time to present information to each other and work on their report in Seminar 3.
Task specification. This assessment has two parts:
Part 1: Identifying policy, practice frameworks and legislative frameworks that impact practice (500 – 800 words each group member). Develop a written document regarding each of the social work professionals in your group that outlines:
• The professional’s role and service context in which they work
• Practice frameworks, legislative frameworks and policies that inform or guide their practice.
• Suggested process:
1. Allocate each team member a social work role from the list provided (Seminar 2).
2. Individually develop a written overview (In between seminar 2 and seminar 3)
3. Present your individual work to your group in seminar 3, discuss and make any changes (Seminar 3).
Part 2: Developing an integrated approach to family support (2500 per group)
Drawing on relevant practice frameworks and academic literature, develop a plan as to how the professionals in your team might best work together to support and meet the needs of the family. Include:
• A set of the guiding of principles to ensure your group practice is family centred (drawing on relevant academic literature)
• A discussion about how your professional roles in the team differ and/or overlap
• A plan about how best to facilitate communication within and between the team and the family
• A discussion of the strengths of your multi-disciplinary team approach
• A discussion of the challenges your team might face (including how team members might navigate practice frameworks, legislative frameworks and policies that may not align).
