You are required to produce a report discussing a multinational company of your choice. There is no specific requirement about the identification of the multinational company, so you are encouraged to choose any MNC of interest to you. The most important factor for you to consider is however data availability, as you are expected to analyse the selected company.

Please note that for a meaningful organizational analysis to be performed you cannot rely simply on the company’s website, but are expected to integrate the information available there with other sources (e.g. financial press, industry reports).

The report expects you to use theories and concepts covered during the course. Ideally you can build the different sections of the report as the course evolve, every week applying the concepts learned in the classroom to the case you selected.

The areas you need to cover in your report are presented below, together with suggested word count.  Introduction (200 words). Introduce the company you selected and justify your choice. The justification has to be provided reflecting on the relevance of the company for the issues debated in the course, and not purely on personal interest.  The organizational environment (200 words).

Discuss the main external forces shaping the organization, making use of theories, concepts and frameworks discussed in the classroom. Emphasize the nature of the relationship between the organization and its environment.  The formal organizational structure (300 words).

Describe the formal organizational structure. Making reference to theories comments on the possible reasons for choosing this structure, as well as the potential advantages and disadvantages. Remember always to consider the specific nature of the organization, its industry and environment when interpreting these decisions. Considering the information available to you please describe the main traits of the organizational culture. Try to use frameworks used in the course and also consider how culture is presented and transmitted in the organization.  The impact of technology (300 words). Discuss how technology is impacting the organization in terms of its functioning and in the achievement of its objectives.  Conclusions (200).

Provide an overall assessment of the situation of the company, identifying potential changes required to the organization and its future evolution. Ensure your views are rooted in relevant theories and consistent with the company history and industry trends.
