Practical Report

To receive the mark for this component, the students must attend the Practical class and submit a practical report. If any one of these two conditions is not met, students will receive a zero (0) mark on this Component of the assessment. Only those members who attended the Practical class must contribute to the practical report.

At the end of the practical class, all the group members together must complete the required calculations and take a copy of all the Workings and observations. Following the completion of practical’s, each group must organize time (one report per group) when they Will meet to write up the practical’s.

Each member of the group must contribute towards the writing of the report. Clearly explain the role of each member both in the field and while writing the report in the introduction chapter of the report.

If there is no contribution from a particular member of the group, that person’s name must not be included in the report.

The report must be written as an Engineering report:

While preparing the report, strictly follow the marking criteria given In the Learning Guide (LG). Also, please follow the below formatting Guidelines while preparing the report.

  • The report must be written in the third person and past tense.
  • Maximum length of the report: 10 pages excluding title page, table of contents, references and appendices. You may use the following formatting: A4 page, 1.5 cm margin all around, Arial 11 pt font and single spacing.
  • References must be quoted and listed as per the School’s Requirement. The School’s referencing requirement is Harvard (Author, Date) Style. A UWS Harvard Referencing Style Guide has been produced by the library: https://library.westernsydney.edu.au/main/sites/default/files/pdf/cite Harvard.pdf
  • Include the actual “Observation Sheets” in the appendix. During The practical class, keep the observation sheets neat!! Do not rub out errors; just put a single line through the error and write the revised reading above it.

Laboratory Report Submission

This report must be submitted using the Turn tin link on VUWS by 12.00 noon Friday the following week. For example, if the practical class is held Monday of this week, the report is due on the Friday of The following week. That is, you will have about 11 days to prepare and submit your report. For details on Turn tin submission, refer to the unit’s VUWS site.

The report must be attached to a “Cover Sheet” signed by all group members that they have contributed to the practical and to the Preparation of the report.
