\nThis assignment continues with the theme of numeracy as the confidence and capability to choose
\nand use mathematics by inviting pre-service teachers to plan an investigation connected to an
\ninterest, task or problem from their lifeworlds. The investigation needs to have a rich mathematical
\nfocus, require some form of data collection (minimum of 10 questions) and\/or secondary data
\nanalysis\/interrogation (minimum of 3 sources) and lead to some action being taken. For example,
\nchoosing the \u201cbest\u201d mobile phone plan to suit personal needs or investigating water wastage in
\nbottling water for sale. This plan is to be written up using the guidelines below.<\/p>\n

\nLength<\/strong>: 2,000 words
\nWeighting<\/strong>: 40%
\nDue<\/strong>: Online by 5pm Friday September 25th.<\/p>\n

You were introduced to data representation, collection and analysis and have been asked to build on
\nthis to investigate a critical issue of your choosing. The key focus of your investigation must be
\nclearly identified and justified and the investigation must either involve primary data collection
\nAND\/OR secondary data interrogation. Assignment 2 involves the initial write up of your
\ninvestigation and hence is an essay\/report, you will be assessed on your academic writing skills
\n(these include issues such as grammar, paragraphing and referencing) and your use of appropriate
\nliterature to support your writing. Assignment 2 does not include the collected data or analysis of
\nthis, as these will be the focus of assignment<\/p>\n

\nThe essay\/report should include the following:
\n\uf0b7 An Introduction to the investigation which clearly identifies the critical aspect that will be
\ninvestigated and the justification for choosing this focus.
\n\uf0b7 A discussion of the significance of the issue which should include a review of appropriate
\nliterature (including current media sources). This significance can be from a critical view or a
\nteaching implications perspective.
\n\uf0b7 An outline of what data will be collected and how it will be collected. Tools for data
\ncollection should be attached as appendix and referenced to appropriately in the text.
\n\uf0b7 Include minimum of 6\/7 references.
\nYou are also required to submit your essay in MS Word or PDF format online. All references should
\nuse the modified Harvard style and the assignment should include a reference list in the same
\nstyle. Appendices are to be included in the submitted file and should come after your reference list.<\/p>\n
