Case study 3

Mya is 28 and lives with her partner Jimmy and they have a 2 year old child George. They have both been working from home during lockdown which looks set to continue for the foreseeable future. Childcare has become an issue as George usually goes to necessary for 2 days a week and they get support from Mya’s parents for the rest of the week. The grandparents have underlying health conditions and had been shooting and don’t feel able to take this on at present. Neighbours had reported concerns to social care about a number of episodes of shouting between the couple and door slamming with the last resulting in Mya leaving the house with bags and George in her arms. She was reported as shouting that she needed to getaway with Jimmy blocking her path and telling her to get back in the house. She managed to getaway but came back the next day. Mya had been to her GP around 18 months ago and has been taking antidepressants since.

How to work with Maya in order for her to take control of her life and become empowered. Demonstrate that I’m working in an anti oppressive way based on principles derived from authors.
