Question: What has research shown about processing subliminal messages?
Answer: Subliminal communications are messages or impulses that are conveyed directly to the subconscious mind beyond the limitations of perception. The fact that communication is subconscious does not mean that the brain cannot comprehend or absorb it. In fact, studies have shown that, even when information is received beyond the range of conscious thinking or perception, the brain (and a person in general) can interpret and react to these messages, particularly in a laboratory setting.
According to studies, whether or not the brain receives subliminal signals, they elicit specific responses from people, especially when observed in a controlled group or an experimental environment. There have been situations where the perception of these messages was strong enough to cause a response across the body, even if the conscious mind missed them.
